BFS - Belfast International InformationOriginally the Aldergrove RAF base, Belfast International Airport saw its first civil flight in the 1930’s. This was short lived because of the event surrounding the war, and during the first half of the 1960’s flights began again. The present terminal building was inaugurated by HRH Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother in 1963 and the first regular jet service started in 1966. By the end on the 1960’s annual passenger numbers has hit the million mark. Belfast International Airport is now the fifth largest regional air cargo centre in the United Kingdom, handling up to 50,000 tonnes of air freight through its centre in 2002. The airport is the principal gate-way to the north of Ireland, operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and serving over 3.7 million passengers a year, flying with four airlines with regular schedules services to many destinations with a wide range of onward worldwide flights available through London and Amsterdam.
