LTN - Luton Information
London Luton Airport was officially opened in 1938. The airport was owned
by the Borough of Luton and, even in those early days, it was considered
that Luton Airport ought to be designated the northern terminal for London.
In a pioneering public-private partnership deal signed in 1998, London
Luton Airport remains publicly owned by Luton Borough Council but is operated,
managed and developed by a private consortium.
London Luton Airport is now the 7th largest airports in the UK and one
of the fastest growing with passenger figures up from 1.9 million in 1995/96
to 6.5 million in 2001. Of those passengers, 74% are on schedule services,
flying to 63 different destinations.
The runway at London Luton Airport is 2,160 meters long and 46 meters
wide with a capacity for 28 aircraft to take off and land every hour.
How to get to London Luton Airport
London Luton Airport is easily accessible from all over the country and
located close to both the M1 and M25 motorways. Central London is just
32 miles away, Milton Keynes just 25 miles and Cambridge just 35 miles.
Use Junction 10 on the M1 motorway and London Luton Airport is just five
minuets drive away, or just 15 minuets from the M25 London orbital motorway.
