MME - Durham Tees Valley Airport
Teesside International Airport was built on land known locally for generations
past as 'Goosepool'. It came into being originally as Royal Air force
Station, Middleton-St-George in 1841.
In 1963 it was decided that RAF MIddleton-St-George should close down.
Disscussions were started on the future of the airport and in April 1964
terms were agreed and the RAF departed.
A passenger terminal was constructed, improvements made to the apron and
the officers' mess was converted in to the St George Airport Hotel.
The terminal was opened in 1966 by Queen Margritha of Sweden and is highly
redarded for its passenger appeal.
2003 saw BMIbaby announce Teesside International Airport as their 4th
UK base, joing Eastern Airways, KLM and Ryanair, flying to 27 destinations
world wide.
How to get to Teesside International Airport
Teesside International Airport can be easitly accessed from the A1(M),
A19 and the A66. The airport is situated only 6 miles east of Darlington,
on the A67.
