Stansted Airport first became a civilian airport in 1957 and is now the United Kingdoms third largest airport for international scheduled passengers.

During 2002 Stansted airport saw a growth of 17.5% in passenger numbers also making it one of the fastest growing major airports in the world.

A £60 million extension to the terminal building was opened in April 2002 to help accommodate the further growth at Stansted Airport, expected to be 25 million passengers per annum by 2010.

Currently the single terminal and runway at Stansted Airport accommodates 16 million passengers a year, flying with 26 airlines to 105 destinations.

How to get to Stansted Airport
In the county of Essex, Stansted Airport is within easy reach of central London. Situated next to Junction 8a of the M11 motorway, it is lass than 20 minuets away from Junction 27 of the M25 London orbital motorway.

Stansted Airport is also convenient for travel to Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire via the A505 and A414; accessible to the whole of East Anglia via the A11, A12 and A120, and linked directly to the north and Midlands by the A1 and A14, which joins the M11 at Junction 14.
